Contradictions over Police Housing Project in Nsanje exposed

By Burnett Munthali

A recent investigation by Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) has revealed inconsistencies in President Lazarus Chakwera’s claims regarding the construction of police houses in Nsanje. During his State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered in Parliament, President Chakwera stated that his government had completed the construction of 28 houses for police officers in the district. However, on the ground, the reality tells a different story.

According to ZBS findings, the construction work is still in its early stages, with only the foundation laid in some areas. Nsanje District Council Chairperson, Cassim Ussein Ngwali, confirmed that the construction of these police houses had only just begun. He stated that none of the 28 houses had been completed yet.

“What we know is that the construction project has just started. There is no single house that has been completed so far,” said Ngwali.

He further elaborated that the project involves building ten houses at Chiromo Police Station and eighteen at Marka Police Station. The construction is being handled by Tapita Construction Company.

These revelations raise concerns about the accuracy of the information presented in the President’s speech. If the houses remain unfinished, it contradicts the government’s claims of progress in strengthening security infrastructure in Nsanje.

This situation has sparked debates among citizens and opposition figures, questioning whether the government is deliberately misleading Malawians about its development achievements. The contradiction between the President’s speech and the reality on the ground highlights the need for greater transparency and accountability in government projects.

As Malawians demand answers, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to these discrepancies. Will authorities acknowledge the unfinished work, or will they attempt to justify the misleading statement? The people of Nsanje, especially police officers in need of proper housing, deserve the truth.
