IOM assures Malawi of Complete Hand in the Management of Migrants

By Leonard Kavwenje,

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) reaffirms its commitment towards migration issues in the country.

IOM Director General Amy Pope revealed this on Wednesday in Addis Ababa where Malawi minister of homeland security Ken Zikhale Reeves Ng’oma is attending the second regional reviews of implementation of the global impact for safe, orderly and regular migration in Africa.

On the conference sidelines Pope said, “We are satisfied with the way Malawi is managing huge numbers of African migrants. My organisation will among others provide adequate expertise and financial support for the cause.”

Ng’oma applauded IOM for the gesture while admitting that responses to financial restraints and capacity hiccups remain key to address immigration issues before presenting a comprehensive report on Malawi migration management status.

Ng’oma further said government will continue working hand in hand with other countries and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to sustain smooth voluntary repatriation of refugees.

200 delegates from different African countries are in attendance at the 8th to 10th October 2024 function.
