Police in Mulanje are keeping in custody three men for illegal possession of an AK47 rifle with six rounds of live ammunition.
According to Mulanje Police Station Spokesperson, Sergeant Innocent Moses, the three, Yamikani Sajomba, Chikondi Gombwa, and Mervin Banda, were arrested on Thursday,at Lauderdale Market.
“Through a tip-off, police detectives learned that the said suspects were offering for sale the rifle within the market, and the detectives acted swiftly, which led to the recovery of the rifle, ammunition, and the arrest of the suspects,” said Moses.
He said during interrogation, the suspects told police that they stole the rifle and ammunition in Mozambique.
However, the three will appear in court soon to answer the case of being found in possession of a firearm without permit.
