MRA up for tax increase awareness, launches tax school quiz

In a bid to promote and increase tax awareness in the country, the Malawi revenue Authority (MRA) has launched a tax school quiz.

The quiz which will be participated by 16 schools from Blantyre and Lilongwe, will dwell on issues of taxation.

Speaking during the launch of the MRA School Quiz 2022 on Wednesday, the authority’s Commissioner General John Biziwick pointed out that they are cognizant of the importance of a tax knowledgeable population to national economic development.

Biziwick further expressed hope that through such initiatives, the country can slowly address tax compliance challenges.

Resenting the South West Education Division Manager, Assistant Human Resource Management officer Edgar Kapenda applauded MRA, for the initiative, adding that it will motivate students to work hard.

The K50 million investment will see the winning school walking away with a grand prize of K2.5 million, and K100 000, for each of the students on the winning team, 16 social studies text books and school bags.

Second and third placed schools will receive K1.5 million and students K70 000 each and K700,000 and K50 000 for the each participating students respectively.
