Senior Resident Magistrate Kamisi has convicted Watson Jere for stealing close to K1.2 million from public coffers at Chintheche Magistrate court in Nkhata bay where he was working as an accounts assistant.
However, the Magistrate has adjourned the case to 10th June 2021 for sentencing.
Jere was arrested in 2018 for abusing money meant for people whom the court had ordered to be compensated.
State Advocate Jacob Nambiri asked for a stiffer sentence saying Jere knew that he was breaking the law when he abused the resources adding that the judgement should deter others from committing a similar offense.
Jere was answering theft by servant charges.
