MCP RSA Wing holds annual conference; Guest of honour Dr Bisika calls for more diaspora involvement

The Malawi Congress Party Diaspora Network South African chapter recently held their first annual conference where among other things they have resolved to push for increased working relationship with their counterparts in Malawi . The two day event  which started on Tuesday took place at Kaia Manzi conference city in , Bronkospruit, Gauteng.

Among the items that the MCP Diaspora members discussed were how best the diaspora members can work with the party in Malawi  as well how the Malawians in South African can harness their relationship with  the Malawi embassy and consulate  in the country . The MCP RSA director Dr Issac Mantjie Nkhata  said  the group decided to hold this annual  conference as one way to have the members network ,  properly know each  and discuss various key issues that affect them as a group but also the many Malawians that are in RSA.

Also in attendance at the event was MCP Director of international Relations  Dr Thomas Bisika who flew all the way from Malawi to be part of the event . Dr Bisika told the gathering that he was excited to see many Malawians in diaspora passionate about their party MCP. He said , the party appreciates the role the diaspora play,  not only politically but in other disciplines such as economically  and that’s why it was the party’s wish while it is in government to explore how best  the diaspora can continue to be of benefit to Malawi.

On the opening day, the wings Deputy Director Runfold Kambaika took time to welcome the invited special guest Dr Bisika as well asking the participants to introduce themselves. The event was attended by members coming from various parts of South Africa Including Cape Town and  Johannesburg.

MCP RSA Wing  is affiliated to the MCP Diaspora Network  (MCPDN ) the global umbrella for all MCP Diaspora groups. The global  deputy leader of the group George Limbani Phiri , speaking to Malawiana Times thanked the MCP members in South Africa  for holding its annual conference . Phiri said  RSA Wing  has set the bar high and the groiup is hopeful that other regional groups will also follow suit. The MCPDN global leader  Chalo Mvula also spoke on the opening day of the event . In a recorded message from his UK base  he highlighted  that  the MCP diaspora finds themselves in a new territory as part of the ruling  party after being in opposition for over two decades. He however, said the diaspora will continue to provide support to the party in Malawi in terms of skills, policy advise  and resource mobilisation.

The group aims to continue holding the annual conferences every year.
