Malawian youth get chance to shine in agri-tech innovation

The Agriculture Youth Technology Association, popularly known as the AYuTe Africa Challenge Malawi 2025, has been launched, offering youthful Malawian agritech innovators a platform to showcase their skills and benefit from cash prizes and business support.

The competition, organized by HEIFER International Malawi, a global development organization committed to eliminating hunger and poverty through sustainable solutions, aims to empower young innovators by providing cash grants, mentorship, and business development opportunities.

According to HEIFER International Interim Country Lead, Francis Saka, the challenge is part of the AYuTe Africa initiative, which seeks to promote agricultural innovation and entrepreneurship among young people.

“We believe that young people have the potential to drive innovation and growth in the agricultural sector, and this challenge is designed to support and empower them,” Saka said.

The competition is open to youth-led startups and innovators who are Malawian and have developed technological solutions that address challenges faced by smallholder farmers and aim to increase food availability. The challenge runs until May 9th, and winners will share a total of K36 million in cash prizes.

In addition to the cash prizes, the winners will also receive resources to enhance their ventures and compete at the regional level.

mHub Project Manager, Aze Kandiero, whose organization has partnered with HEIFER International to support the challenge, said that the competition provides a unique opportunity for young innovators to showcase their skills and solutions.

“We are excited to support the AYuTe Africa Challenge Malawi 2025 and provide young innovators with the resources they need to succeed,” Kandiero said.

The AYuTe Africa Challenge Malawi 2025 is a timely initiative that recognizes the importance of agriculture in Malawi’s economy.

To participate in the challenge, interested youth-led startups and innovators can submit their applications before the deadline on May 9th.

The applications will be reviewed by a panel of judges, who will select the winners based on the innovation, feasibility, and potential impact of their solutions.
