Mary Chilima Honors Pope Francis with Photo of Late Husband and Pontiff

Mary Chilima, widow of Malawi’s late Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima (SKC), has paid tribute to Pope Francis by sharing a cherished photo of her husband with the pontiff on her Facebook page. The image, captioned *”Kumwamba ndithu kukoma”* (“Heaven is truly sweet” in Chichewa), expressed her belief that their reunion in the afterlife would be a joyous occasion. 

Pope Francis passed away on Easter Monday, leaving millions of Catholics worldwide in mourning. The late Saulos Chilima, a devout Catholic, had previously met the pontiff, and the shared photo symbolized their spiritual connection. Mary’s post resonated with many Malawians, who fondly remembered Chilima’s faith and leadership.

Chilima, who died in a plane crash in June 2024, was a prominent political figure and a man of deep religious conviction.
