Matola optimistic of positive Malawi fuel situation
By Wadza Botomani
Minister of Energy, Ibrahim Matola, has said that fuel scarcity in Malawi is expected to improve with the arrival of a vessel carrying 51 million litres of petroleum products from Tanga in Tanzania.
The Minister made this announcement after inspecting the vessel, saying the shipment will significantly help reduce the fuel crisis.
According to Matola, all processes have been finalised, and the transfer of the products will begin on Saturday, with an anticipated arrival in Malawi on Thursday.
He commended President Dr Lazarus Chakwera’s decision to shift procurement from an open tender to a government-to-government arrangement, which enabled the purchase of the 51 million litres.
“The vessel is already in the process of discharging the product.” Said Matola
NOCMA’s Deputy CEO, Meklas Reuben, stated that as the appointed agent for managing the government-to-government arrangement, they will ensure smooth operations.
“This development offers hope to Malawians who have been struggling with fuel shortages that have disrupted transportation, commerce, and daily life.” Reuben stated
