Mutharika calls Malawians to register in the supplementary voter registration
By Vincent Gunde
Former President and DPP leader Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, has urged each and every Malawian to register in large numbers in the supplementary voter registration phase which is underway in the country saying their vote is their voice and no one will steal it.
Professor Mutharika said the DPP is committed to protecting every vote and ensuring that the upcoming elections to be held on 16th September, 2025 are free, fair, credible and transparent urging Malawians to stand up for their democracy and reclaim the nation’s destiny.
He said the DPP is ready to lead this transformation assuring Malawians that the party has done it before and with the people’s support, they will do it again urging Malawians that the journey to rebuilding the nation begins with each and every Malawian citizen.
In his end-of-year message, Professor Mutharika said the 2024 has been a year of challenges and triumphs, and through it, the DPP and its members have remained united and resolute saying his heart is heavy as he witnesses the pain and struggles of the people.
Mutharika said Malawians are crying with painful truth and life has become unbearable under the failed government which is presided over by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera observing that this is not the Malawi they built together.
He said under him and the DPP, Malawians once thrived on affordable food, stable prices of essential goods and services, and opportunities for all saying these dreams lie in ruins, ruins created by the broken promises of the MCP government.
The DPP leader has urged Malawians not to remain silent on the growing threats to their democracy saying selective justice has been weaponized against opposition leaders, threatening the very fabric of fairness and equality.
“The arrest and harassment of those with dissenting views, including threats to religious leaders, journalists and media houses, is a grave concern,” said Mutharika.
He has assured Malawians that the DPP stands firmly against these injustices promising to work tirelessly to restore the rule of law, protecting the freedom of the press and ensuring that every Malawian can speak their truth without fear of retribution.
Professor Mutharika said as Malawians are in time of sorrow and reflection on the tragic death of Dr. Saulosi Chilima and eight others, in the Chikangawa forest, Malawians cannot escape the questions surrounding the circumstance of the tragedy, advising the citizens to let their memory inspire them to seek truth for a better future.
He has finally said rain is life and its absence threatens the country’s food security
and livelihoods urging Malawians to come together in prayer asking for God’s mercy to renew their land and replenish their fields saying through faith and unity, they can overcome this challenge as they have done many times before.
