Humanitarian Crisis Unfolds in Thyolo

A devastating hailstorm has left a trail of destruction in Thyolo, rendering 160 people homeless and injuring two others. The storm’s impact has been felt across several villages, including Kabambe, Loti, Sitima, and George.

In the face of disaster, the community in Thyolo has come together to support those affected by the recent hailstorm. Local leaders are working closely with the council to provide emergency assistance, including shelter, food, and non-food items.



The hailstorm that hit Thyolo is a stark reminder of the devastating impact of climate change on rural communities. As the district struggles to cope with the aftermath, concerns are being raised about the need for more effective disaster preparedness and response measures.

As the people of Thyolo struggle to come to terms with the destruction caused by the hailstorm, there are growing calls for the government to act quickly to provide support. The council has already approached the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) for assistance, but more needs to be done to address the immediate needs of the affected communities.
