Senior Chief Nthondo in conjunction with other senior Traditional leaders have jointly praised President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera for the 800 bags of fertilizer which National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) handed over to farmers in Ntchisi on Monday.
Speaking during the function, Senior Chief Nthondo said the initiative of giving fertilizer to farmers instead of cash is very commendable.
“These fertilizer loans are very commendable because they will help to enhance food security,” he said.
Senior Chief Malenga of the same district echoed with Nthondo saying NEEF is the force to recon with.
He said the fertilizer loans given will help to enhance creation of job opportunity through casual labourers while at the same time spurring economic growth.
“You have seen here women , and youth receiving fertilizer, some even 30 bags, these are real farmers who will use this fertilizer hence improving food sufficiency,” he said.
NEEF Chief Executive Officer Humphreys Mdyetseni said his organisation is racing against time hence already 50, 000 bags of fertilizer has been loaned to farmers.
Minister of Information Moses Kunkuyu said the exercise is inline with President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera vision of ensuring that Malawi is food secured.
The Minister said NEEF is the vehicle aimed at changing livelihood of Malawians.
