Road to September: MCP supporters gear up for 2025 elections
By Burnett Munthali
As Malawi edges closer to the much-anticipated 2025 general elections, supporters of the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) are already rallying behind President Lazarus Chakwera. The buzz is intensifying as Vitumbiko AZ Mumba, a prominent engineer and vocal supporter of Chakwera, has taken to social media with the hashtag #DoloKwambiriAmavotelaChakwera (Only the best vote for Chakwera).
The posts, accompanied by messages of optimism and encouragement, are resonating with party loyalists as the MCP prepares to defend its position in the coming polls.
In a move to mobilize support and strengthen visibility, the MCP has launched a sale of branded merchandise, including golf shirts and T-shirts, at its headquarters. The initiative has sparked excitement among party members and supporters who see it as a way to proudly display their allegiance.
The merchandise is emblazoned with slogans such as #BolaNkhunthazi (Forward ever), #EyesOnTheBall, and #PeopleOverPolitics, reflecting the party’s commitment to progress and people-centered leadership.
An MCP supporter from Lilongwe said, “Buying these T-shirts is not just about showing support; it’s about being part of a movement that prioritizes Malawians.”
Vitumbiko AZ Mumba’s posts are adding momentum to the campaign. His call to action and use of hashtags like #DoloKwambiriAmavotelaChakwera have sparked conversations among Malawians online, with many debating the party’s achievements and challenges since taking office in 2020.
The hashtags are trending, with supporters urging one another to remain focused on the party’s vision, encapsulated in the phrase #EyesOnTheBall.
As the MCP gears up for the elections, it faces both enthusiasm and skepticism. While loyalists highlight infrastructural projects, education reforms, and health sector improvements as Chakwera’s successes, critics point to persistent economic challenges, unemployment, and rising costs of living as areas where the party needs to improve.
The push to sell merchandise and energize grassroots supporters suggests that the MCP is aware of the challenges ahead and is working to consolidate its base.
The road to September 2025 is paved with anticipation and strategic preparation. The MCP, buoyed by vocal supporters like Vitumbiko AZ Mumba and a vibrant grassroots movement, is rallying its supporters under a unified message of progress and people-first governance.
As the countdown continues, one thing is clear: the political battle lines are being drawn, and Malawians are watching closely to see which party will capture the nation’s trust and votes.
