On 25 December 2024, former President Arthur Peter Mutharika reached out to Malawians with a touching message shared via his WhatsApp platform. Together with his wife, Madame Gertrude Mutharika, and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Mutharika extended warm Christmas greetings while delivering a message of hope, compassion, and unity during the festive season.

“Christmas is a precious time for us to cherish the bonds we have and to spread love and kindness to those around us,” Mutharika began, emphasizing the essence of togetherness and goodwill that the holiday season symbolizes.

In his message, he urged Malawians to use the festive period as an opportunity to uplift and support one another, particularly in light of the ongoing economic challenges many face. He expressed concern for those unable to afford basic necessities, highlighting the importance of generosity and shared responsibility.

“May those of us who have been blessed with abundance, generously share with those who may not even dream of enjoying a traditional Christmas meal,” Mutharika said, urging the community to embody the true spirit of Christmas through acts of kindness and care.

He also reflected on the broader message of Christmas, calling for the spread of love and hope in every corner of Malawi. “May the true message of love and hope that this season brings be spread far and wide,” he concluded.

The former President’s message resonates deeply with many Malawians, particularly as the nation grapples with economic hardships. His words serve as a reminder of the values of unity and empathy, which are vital in overcoming adversity and building a stronger community.

As Malawians celebrate the season, Mutharika’s message stands as a call to action—to not only celebrate but to support those in need and carry the spirit of Christmas into the new year.
