MUST partners with Kweza Arts Hub to boost creative industries

The Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) has formed a strategic partnership with Kweza Arts Hub to advance training and create opportunities for creatives and MUST students in the cultural and creative industries.

The partnership aims to drive sustainable development and promote growth in the creative sector.

Speaking during the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Lilongwe on Wednesday, MUST Vice Chancellor Address Malata highlighted the partnership’s alignment with the university’s objective of fostering growth in the creative industries.



“MUST has a School of Culture and Heritage, and partnering with institutions like Kweza Arts Hub is crucial to achieving our objectives.By working together, we can make a positive impact in the industry,”  said Malata.

She said the partnership will focus on supporting research to enhance evidence-based contributions to the creative industries.

“It will also provide mentorship opportunities for students through experts in cultural and arts disciplines.

“Additionally, the partnership will develop and implement short courses, as well as document the contributions of living and late artists to preserve the creative industry’s history,” added Malata.

On his part, Kweza Arts Hub Director, Q Malewezi, noted that the collaboration is timely, given the ongoing efforts to develop the creative and heritage industries.

He said the recent enactment of the National Arts and Heritage Act has also created a favorable environment for the partnership to thrive.
