Stop saying “this is the government” while people are starving – Musowa
By Burnett Munthali
Victor Musowa, Member of Parliament for Mulanje Bale, has issued a strong rebuke to members of the ruling party in Parliament, urging them to prioritize addressing the country’s food crisis rather than repeatedly declaring, “This is the government.”
Speaking during a parliamentary session, Musowa criticized the government’s lack of action in addressing the hunger affecting hundreds of thousands of Malawians. He questioned how leaders could take pride in their administration when citizens are suffering and struggling to access basic necessities like food.
“You keep saying, ‘This is the government,’ yet people have no food. First, feed the people, and then you can confidently proclaim your government’s success. How can someone say, ‘This is the government,’ while their household has no food? It is heartbreaking to witness citizens booing the President they once voted for because of his failures,” Musowa stated.
He urged the government to urgently implement measures to combat the worsening hunger crisis, noting that many Malawians are living in desperation and misery. Musowa emphasized that the government’s credibility depends on its ability to meet the needs of its people, particularly during such critical times.
The lawmaker’s remarks have resonated with many Malawians who are grappling with the harsh realities of food insecurity. Calls for action are growing louder, with citizens demanding immediate and sustainable solutions to alleviate hunger.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes are on the government to see how it will respond to this mounting pressure and whether it can restore hope to a nation in distress.
