DPP Vice President for Central Region, Gangata, Claims Chakwera Has Failed and Should Step Down
By Burnett Munthali
The Vice President of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for the Central Region, Gangata, has strongly criticized President Lazarus Chakwera’s leadership, stating that the President has failed to deliver on his promises and should step down. Gangata, a senior member of the opposition party, expressed his concerns about the state of the nation under Chakwera’s administration, citing economic struggles and the President’s failure to address key national issues.
Gangata argued that the Malawian people are disappointed with the current government’s inability to manage the country’s affairs effectively. “The promises made by Chakwera during his campaign have not been fulfilled. The economy is struggling, the cost of living is high, and people are facing hardships every day,” Gangata said. “The government is not delivering, and it is clear that the President has failed to lead.”
One of Gangata’s main criticisms centered on the economic situation in Malawi. He pointed to rising inflation, a lack of job opportunities, and the continued reliance on foreign aid as evidence of the government’s failure to improve the country’s economic condition. He emphasized that the Malawian people deserve better leadership, one that would prioritize local solutions and economic independence.
“The government has failed to address the most basic needs of the people, such as food security, healthcare, and education. Instead of improving the lives of the people, we see a government that is more focused on foreign aid and external support,” Gangata added. “Malawi needs a government that will focus on local solutions and empower the people.”
Gangata also criticized President Chakwera’s frequent overseas trips, arguing that they have not brought any tangible benefits to the country. “While the President is traveling abroad, the people of Malawi are struggling. We need leadership that stays in the country and focuses on solving local problems,” Gangata said.
Furthermore, Gangata called on President Chakwera to resign, stating that his leadership has not brought the change that Malawi needs. “It is time for Chakwera to step down. He has failed to lead this country, and the people of Malawi deserve better. We cannot continue to suffer under this leadership,” he said.
Gangata’s remarks reflect growing discontent among opposition leaders and some segments of the population who believe that the current government has failed to live up to expectations. His call for President Chakwera to step down adds to the mounting pressure on the ruling administration, which faces criticism on multiple fronts, including economic management and governance.
As the political landscape in Malawi continues to shift, Gangata’s comments are likely to fuel further debate on the effectiveness of President Chakwera’s leadership. Whether or not his call for the President to step down will resonate with the broader public remains to be seen, but it is clear that dissatisfaction with the current administration is growing among some sections of the population.
