By Burnett Munthali
Voter registration ahead of the 2025 general elections has started with enthusiasm in Neno District, as residents flock to all 93 registration centers across the three constituencies. This surge in participation reflects the community’s eagerness to engage in the electoral process.
At the Chikonde 1 registration center, supervisor Daniel Banda reported a promising start, stating that they registered 50 individuals shortly after opening at 8:00 AM today. The early turnout indicates a positive response from the local population, underscoring their commitment to exercising their democratic rights.
Vera Banda, the Technical Coordinator for the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) in Neno District, confirmed that the registration exercise is progressing well, with only minor challenges encountered. One notable issue involved a registrant with a disability, specifically someone with cut fingers. Despite this challenge, Banda assured that their advanced registration system successfully accommodated the individual.
Additionally, Banda addressed previous concerns regarding allowances for some center supervisors, stating that those issues have been resolved. With these matters now sorted, all personnel are fully engaged in the registration process.
The high turnout and efficient handling of challenges signal a promising start to the voter registration period in Neno, setting a hopeful tone for the upcoming elections. The MEC’s efforts to address issues swiftly demonstrate their commitment to ensuring a smooth and inclusive registration process for all eligible voters.
