Road to 2025: “Boma ndi Lomweli” Hosts Red Parade

By Burnett Munthali

As Malawi inches closer to the highly anticipated 2025 elections, political parties are intensifying their efforts to rally support from the public. Today, the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP), under the popular slogan “Boma ndi lomweli” (This is the government), is holding Red Parade in various parts of the country. The event, marked by enthusiastic displays of party colors and symbolism, is seen as part of the MCP’s strategy to showcase its dominance and galvanize support ahead of the elections.

The Red Parade, a public demonstration of allegiance to the ruling party, is being held in several districts, drawing large crowds of MCP supporters dressed in red attire, the party’s official color. The streets are expected to be lined with vehicles, motorbikes, and pedestrians waving flags and chanting the party’s slogans, creating a sea of red as a show of unity and strength.

Organizers of the event have emphasized that the Red Parade is more than just a political rally but a celebration of the party’s achievements during its time in government. MCP officials have praised the party’s record on infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and social services, urging supporters to continue backing the government as it seeks to retain power in 2025.

“The Red Parade is a symbol of our confidence as a party, that the MCP remains the government of choice for the people of Malawi. Our track record speaks for itself,” said an MCP spokesperson, adding that the parade also serves as a reminder that the party is ready for the next election cycle.

However, the opposition has been quick to criticize the event, dismissing it as a mere spectacle with little substance. Some opposition leaders argue that the Red Parade is designed to divert attention from the challenges facing the country, including economic hardship, unemployment, and governance issues.

The MCP remains optimistic, however, and today’s parade is seen as a reaffirmation of the party’s belief that it will emerge victorious in the 2025 polls. As thousands take to the streets in red attire, the political landscape in Malawi continues to heat up, with both ruling and opposition parties positioning themselves for the contest ahead.
