Jumbe describes Malawi’s voting for violence in Gaza as an embarrassment
By Vincent Gunde
President of Chilungamo Party Comrade Alhaji Imraan Jumbe, says the decision for Malawi to side with Israel against the UN resolution to end war in Gaza-Palestine, has left Malawians bewildered and ashamed describing it as an embarrassment not only to the citizens but in the face of the world.
Comrade Jumbe said the act of siding with violence while the rest of Africa calls for peace and justice is a wake-up call not just for the country’s leaders but for every Malawian who values humanity so that together, they can make their voices heard and stand on the right side of history.
He has demanded that the Malawi Government reverses its decision immediately, calling upon it to respect the sovereignty of the Palestinian people, their rights to freedom, and the basic right to life for their children.
Writing in a statement, Comrade Alhaji Jumbe said History will judge President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and his MCP government for the decision reached saying they will go down in the annals of history as the leaders who contributed to the brutality of Palestine’s innocent civilians.
Alhaji Jumbe has urged the citizens of Malawi not stand with this decision by writing to United Nations (UN) making it clear that this government does not represent the moral compass of its people claiming that the Malawians cry is the cry of the Palestinians.
He said South Africa has made its stance clear calling for Palestinian freedom and even going so far as to seek justice for Israeli’s war crime at the international Criminal Court (ICC) observing that the MCP government has chosen to stand with oppressors rather than engage with the will of its people and the wider African continent.
The President said many African nations have taken similar positions, raising their voices against this senseless war in Gaza-Palestine questioning why Malawi has chosen the path of supporting the killings of innocent civilians who continue to die by the thousands.
He said Palestinian homes in Gaza have been razed to the ground asking President Chakwera and Malawians, where is the humanity in supporting such brutality? the Malawian government’s decision stands as an indictment of its failure to recognize the sanctity of life and justice.
Alhaji Jumbe said the decision to align with war mongers is one the government cannot take alone observing that in matters of such a great moral weight, a government that has the welfare of its people at heart, consult.
“The world watches in horror as innocent children die, their futures stolen from them, yet, the MCP remains on the wrong side of history,” reads Alhaji Jumbe’s writings on the wall.
Jumbe has finally warned President Chakwera and his MCP government that Malawians are standing for justice, for peace, and for the rights of all oppressed peoples, demanding a permanent ceasefire and without this, they will mobilize and make their voices heard across the world.
