Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) President Enoch Chihana has issued a heartfelt apology to Malawians for his role in signing the Tonse Alliance agreement with the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

Speaking at the party’s convention underway in Lilongwe, Chihana described his endorsement of the alliance as a “serious mistake” and expressed his regret.

He also highlighted the nation’s current challenges, including severe economic difficulties and governance issues.

Chihana emphasized that the presidency has become an institution of self-entitlement, rather than service, and that Malawians are suffering as a result.

He also stressed the need for change, citing the country’s significant debt, dependence on international organizations, and the erosion of the rule of law.

Chihana referenced a recent incident in Chikwawa, where vehicles accompanying President Lazarus Chakwera were stoned, as a clear demonstration of Malawians’ desire for change.

Throughout his speech, Chihana emphasized the importance of accountability, good governance, and the need for a new era of leadership in Malawi.

His apology and candid assessment of the nation’s challenges were well-received by the delegates, who showed their support through applause and cheers.
