German TV Ducks Responsibility, Leaves Malawians in the Dark on VP’s Plane Crash Report

By Twink Jones Gadama

In a shocking turn of events, the German company responsible for investigating the plane crash that killed Malawi’s Vice President, Saulos Chilima, has refused to make the report public, sparking outrage and disappointment among Malawians.

Social Action for Development, a local organization, had emailed the German TV Deuche  Welle seeking a copy of the report, only to be told that the investigation had been concluded and the report submitted to the Malawi government.

The TV claimed it was no longer within their mandate to produce the report publicly and also they have the duty to protect their news sources

This response has raised more questions than answers, with many Malawians demanding transparency and accountability from both the German company and the Malawi government.

“It’s unacceptable that the report is being kept secret,” said a local resident. “We deserve to know what happened to our Vice President.”

The plane crash, which occurred on June 10, 2024 sent shockwaves across the nation, and the government’s response has been widely criticized as inadequate and insensitive.

The lack of transparency surrounding the investigation and report has only added fuel to the fire.

“We urge the Malawi government to release the report to the public,” said a spokesperson for Social Action for Development.

“The people of Malawi have a right to know what happened, and it’s the government’s responsibility to ensure transparency and accountability.”

The German company’s refusal to make the report public has also raised concerns about their credibility and commitment to transparency.

“It’s disappointing that a reputable company like theirs would duck responsibility and leave Malawians in the dark,” said a local journalist.

As the controversy continues to unfold, Malawians are demanding answers and action from their government.

The release of the report is just the first step towards justice and closure for the family of the late Vice President and the nation as a whole.

The government must take responsibility for ensuring transparency and accountability in this matter.

Anything less will be seen as a betrayal of trust and a failure of leadership. The people of Malawi deserve better.
