Robot in VP’s Office: Underutilization of Vice President’s Office and Missed Opportunities for National Development
LBy Collings Linyenga
Despite the Vice President’s office being a delegated authority, Dr. Michael Usi has been criticized for not leveraging his position to initiate innovative ideas and drive meaningful contributions to national development. Instead, some argue that he appears overly focused on securing a spot as a running mate in future elections.
This perceived prioritization of political ambition over governance has led to concerns that the Vice President’s office is not being utilized to its full potential. Malawians expect their leaders to drive progress and improvement, but Dr. Usi’s tenure has been marked by a lack of impactful initiatives and meaningful engagement on critical national issues.
Notably, since assuming the role of Vice President, Dr. Usi has failed to showcase any significant achievements or initiatives that have positively impacted the nation. His tenure has been characterized by a lack of tangible results, leaving many to wonder if he is truly committed to driving national development.
Furthermore, Dr. Usi’s silence on pressing national issues has been deafening. The ongoing immigration crisis, which has seen a surge in illegal immigration and human trafficking, has received little attention from the Vice President’s office. Similarly, the controversy surrounding the National Registration Bureau’s voter registration process, which has raised concerns about the integrity of the electoral system, has been met with indifference from Dr. Usi.
By failing to address these critical issues and capitalize on the opportunities afforded by his office, Dr. Usi misses the chance to leave a lasting legacy and make a positive impact on the country’s development trajectory. As Malawi approaches the next elections, citizens expect more from their leaders, and the Vice President’s office should be a hub of innovation, accountability, and progress.
