President Lazarus Chakwera Concludes Productive Visit to Berlin

President Lazarus Chakwera has wrapped up a successful working visit to Berlin, where he engaged in important bilateral discussions with His Excellency Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the President of the Federal Republic of Germany. The meeting, held at President Steinmeier’s official residence, underscored the long-standing and cooperative relationship between Germany and Malawi.

During their talks, President Steinmeier extended heartfelt condolences to the people of Malawi for the tragic loss of former Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima and eight others in June. This gesture highlighted the depth of empathy and solidarity between the two nations.

President Steinmeier also expressed appreciation for the 60-year-old diplomatic ties between Germany and Malawi. He emphasized the importance of maintaining and strengthening these relations to ensure mutual benefits for future generations.

In response, President Chakwera reaffirmed the significance of Germany as a key partner in Malawi’s development agenda. He highlighted Germany’s supportive role in Malawi’s strategic sectors, including Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining, which are pivotal for the country’s economic growth.

The visit concluded on a positive note with the signing of several development agreements in the areas of water transport and energy. These agreements are expected to enhance Malawi’s infrastructure and support its broader development goals.

President Chakwera expressed his satisfaction with the outcomes of the visit and the ongoing support from Germany and its stakeholders. As he and his delegation return to Malawi, they do so with a sense of accomplishment and renewed commitment to advancing the nation’s development.
