NRB interns cry foul over insufficient field allowance
By Chisomo Phiri
Interns working for National Registration Bureau(NRB) have penned the bureau regarding their field allowance of K70,000 per month which they say is insufficient for their basic needs.
In a letter addressed to the Principal Secretary for NRB,the interns are demanding an increase to the stipend.
Among others, the interns have said there have been instances of some of them selling forms and requesting fees from clients due to financial struggles.
The interns have this far emphasized the need for adequate financial support to ensure their well-being and effectiveness in their roles.
Meanwhile, the temporary workers have warned to do unspecified action if authorities fail to address their concerns within 72 hours.
The bureau recruited the interns on a contractual basis to fast-track the production process of national identification cards across the country.
NRB is a Government Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security.
The bureau has the following deliverables: Birth and Death Certificates; National Identity Cards for bonafide Malawians; Identity Cards for foreigners; and Certificate of Registration of Marriage.
