Mzuzu University(MZUNI) is set to host its first ever national research dissemination conference  from June 5 to 6, 2024, at the institution’s Centre for Open Distance and e-Learning (CODeL) in Mzuzu.

According to the University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Wapulumuka Mulwafu, the conference to be held under the theme ‘Research and Innovation : A Catalyst for Social, Cultural, Economic and Transformation” seeks to address the challenges the University has faced in sharing its research findings.

“Mzuzu University does not have a journal and has never organized a research dissemination conference, which has led to our scholars using external outlets for publishing their results.

“This is not only expensive but also restrictive due to limited opportunities,” Mulwafu explained.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor emphasized that the conference will foster the emergence of new ideas, professional development, policy influence, and best practices, ultimately contributing to the achievement of Agenda 2063.

“The conference will bring together academics, scholars, and practitioners from various fields to share their findings, engage in discussions, and network,” added Mulwafu .

He indicated that so far, the University has received 118 abstracts from scholars both within and outside the country and expects over 100 delegates, including those who have not submitted abstracts but have shown interest in attending.

MZUNI was founded in 1997 after being transformed from a teachers training college established in 1970s.

The University accepted its first students in 1999.

Currently, it has over 8,000 students.
