FDH Bank Cup kicks off with record-breaking 70 teams

The 150 million Kwacha FDH Bank Cup is off to a thrilling start with a record-breaking 70 teams from across the country’s three regions set to compete in the preliminary stage.

According to Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Competitions Director Gomezgani Zakazaka,this year’s competition promises to be the biggest and best yet, with the Southern Region Football Association and Central Region Football Association each contributing 21 teams, and the Northern Region Football Association bringing 28 teams to the table.

He says the  games will kick off on May 25,2024 , and the stakes are higher than ever.

“The cup champions will take home a whopping K35 million, a significant increase from last year’s K30 million.

“The losing finalist will also receive a substantial K15 million, up from K9 million last year.

“Additionally, teams that make it to the semifinals will each receive K7 million, a marked improvement from the K2 million awarded last year.

“But that’s not all – sponsors FDH Bank will also provide kits for the semi-finalists and all 16 teams that qualify for the national draw. And, each qualifying team at the national level will receive K1 million, a notable increase from the K700,000 awarded last year, “says Zakazaka

He says some of the highly anticipated fixtures in the preliminary stage include:

– MDF Marine VS Ntaja
– The Boys VS Red Lions
– Santhe Admarc VS Wimbe FC
– Blue Eagle VS Airborne Rangers FC
– Likoma Islands FC VS Chipolopolo Boys FC.
