Two women arrested in Mchinji for stealing items from a shop worth over K250, 000

Police in Mchinji have arrested two women, Tereza Banda, 27, and Mary Mbewe, 33, for allegedly stealing items from a shop worth K257,000 around Mchinji Boma.

According to Mchinji Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Costable Limbani Mpinganjira during the day, the two women, suspects, went to the victim’s shop disguising as customers where they were welcomed by a shop assistant



“As the suspects were window-shopping, taking an advantage that the shop assistant was alone, they sneaked various shop items into their plastic bags which they swiftly left at the counter in their trickery, that triggered the shop assistant to raise eyebrows

“Upon the shop keeper realizing about the stolen items when the suspects left, he reported to the proprietor and an instant follow-up on a car was made to get hold of the suspects,” says Mpinganjira.

Coincidentally, they met the suspects on their way home with the stolen items in a plastic bag and their attempts to run away proved futile as they were caught and taken to the police station

Mpinganjira says some of the stolen items that have been recovered include two pairs of trousers, three hand bags, two shoes,one Golf shirt, four blouses, one t-shirt, one wig and an air force Jordan shoe.

Meanwhile ,another complaint who runs a shop around the Mchinji Boma has also today lodged another complaint against the same suspects alleging that they also stole some items from her shop on the same date worth about K82,000 and currently another case file of theft has also been opened

Tereza Banda and Mary Mbewe hail from Tikoliwe Village, under Traditional Authority Mlonyeni in Mchinji and are yet to answer the charge of Theft before the court soon.
