Two men to spend 5 years in prison over motorcycle theft

The Phalombe Second Grade Magistrate court has sentenced two men, Kumbukani Noche and Dziwanani Makwinja to 5 years imprisonment with hard labour for Theft of Motorcycle.
The court through the state prosecutor Sub Inspector Dingiswayo Mbepula, heard that on January 13, 2024 at around 19:00 hours the information was received by the Officers from Chiringa Police Unit, that the duo were offering for sale the stolen Motorcycle at a certain business person’s compound at Chiringa Trading Centre.
Upon receipt the information, Officers rushed to the scene, where two convicts were arrested.
Appearing before Second Grade Magistrate, Steve Samati, the duo pleaded guilty for the charge leveled against against them.
In mitigation, the two pleaded for forgiveness since they are first offenders and bread winners for their families respectively.
In his submission, Mbepula prayed for stiffer punishment, saying people of these characters are threat to the society and enemies of progress.
Passing his judgement, Samati, concurred with the state and sentenced them to 5 years for the Theft of Motorcycle and 2 years imprisonment with hard labour for the resisting an arrest.
These sentences to run consecutively.
Kumbukani Noche, 28, hails from Chiduba Village, while Dziwanani Makwinja, 23, hails from Mbedza Village, both from Traditional Authority Nazombe in Phalombe district.
