A 29-year-old Lester Maganga, who is suspected to have brutally murdered former Sales Manager at Coca-Cola Beverages Company Arran Witika has on Tuesday finally applied for a bail at the High Court in Lilongwe; barely a day after Senior Resident Magistrate Wanangwa Nyirenda committed the case to this court.
His lawyer, Innocent Kubwalo confirmed the development this with local media; saying the application is premised on the right of the accused as provided for in the laws and procedures.
However, the state said it is yet to indicate a fresh intent to contest the application but on Monday (it) asked the court to remand the suspect for 90 days for the police to conclude investigations.
Maganga was arrested on Sunday by the police after preliminary investigations revealed that he quarrelled with the deceased after discovering that they were dating the same woman.
The late Wittika, was found dead in the backseat of his motor vehicle in Area 15, Lilongwe on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
Police say he had cuts in the head and his body was covered with the vehicle’s floor mats.
