President Lazarus Chakwera has been honoured by the National Construction Industry Council (NCIC) as the Champion of Quality Infrastructure in Malawi.
The recognition was announced by NCIC Board Chairperson, Quantity Surveyor Jeremiah Magaba, during the Inaugural National Construction Day celebrations held in Lilongwe.
Magaba commended President Chakwera for his unwavering commitment to promoting quality infrastructure and professionalism within the construction industry.

He further acknowledged the President’s instrumental role in championing the Construction Sector Transparency Initiative (CoST), a global initiative aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability in public infrastructure delivery.
Magaba also highlighted Chakwera’s leadership in driving the review and successful amendment of the NCIC Act, a milestone that was achieved last month when Parliament passed the revised legislation.
According to the NCIC, the President’s contributions have laid a solid foundation for improved governance, efficiency, and integrity in the construction sector.
The celebrations mark a significant moment for the country’s construction industry, with the inaugural National Construction Day serving as a platform to recognise key stakeholders and promote sustainable development.
NCIC emphasized that the recognition of President Chakwera is not only symbolic but also a testament to the government’s broader agenda of infrastructural transformation.
The event brought together professionals, policymakers, and industry players who echoed the need to uphold quality standards and transparency across all construction projects.
The Council believes that with continued leadership and collaboration, Malawi’s construction sector can be a key driver of socio-economic growth.
As the country continues to invest in roads, bridges, housing, and public buildings, the emphasis on quality and transparency remains central to achieving the nation’s development aspirations.
