Japanese Govt commended for contributing towards Malawi’s sports development

The Minister of Youth and Sports Uchizi Mkandawire has commended the Japanese Government for contributing to the development of sports in the country.
Mkandawire was speaking on Saturday when he presided over the eighth Japanese Ambassador’s Judo championship in Lilongwe.
Mkandawire said the championship is in line with the government’s 2063 agenda of sports development.
He then called on other development partners to support the government in the development of sports.
On his part, the Japanese Ambassador to Malawi Yoichi Oya said he is impressed that Judo has become competitive since the embassy introduced it in 2014.
According to Oya, Malawi is able to participate at the international level citing the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic qualifiers.
He assured the government of the continued championship.
Treasurer General of the Judo Association of Malawi Chikumbutso Kansomba asked well-wishers for a judo complex as now the sport has developed.
During the day, the winners were presented with different medals.
