Malawian taekwondo athlete star Stanislaus Phiri has emerged the winner of gold medal at the Next Generation and Swazi Tigers Championship, in Manzini Eswatini.
Competing in the 80kg Senior Men Category on Saturday, Phiri beat Francisco Boaventura of Mozambique in the quarterfinals before defeating Bonke Sinkhonze of Eswatini in the semifinals.
The country’s popular Taekwondo athlete went on to overcome another Mozambican in Eduardo Mabasso to clinch the gold medal.
On his part, Taekwondo Association of Malawi (TAM) General Secretary Medson Ntila commended Phiri for bringing home a Gold medal.
Ntila urged other Taekwondo athletes in the country to emulate what Phiri has done and bring more such medals home.
Stanislaus Phiri is not stranger to success, having won gold at the Matola Championship in Mozambique earlier this year, and two other gold medals in the Korean Ambassador Championship in South Africa last year.
