Umhlangano wa Maseko cultural event on August 31,September 2

The organizer of Umhlangano wa Maseko cultural event Maseko Ngoni Heritage Trust has announced that this year, the event will be held from August 31 to September 2, 2023.

Secretary General for the Maseko Ngoni Heritage Trust Kandi Padambo has told local media on Thursday that the cultural event’s celebrations will once again focus on unity and co-existence among the Maseko Ngoni’s as well as other tribes in Malawi.



Padambo, however said they have a deficit to meet their K70 million budget for the celebration.

Meanwhile,Culturist Aupson Ndawazake Thole has challenged tribal groupings in the country to also reflect on other equally pressing social challenges during these cultural festivals apart from focusing on unity.

The Umhangano wa Maseko cultural event was founded by Inkosi ya Makhosi Gomani V to promote, celebrate and appreciate the Maseko Ngoni culture.

During the event, Ngoni offer sacrifices to their departed forefathers.

Last year, President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera attended the event.
