Malawi Police in Neno district are keeping in custody a 61-year-old former Primary Education Advisor (PEA) Betino Mpapa on allegation that he defiled and impregnated a 16-year- old girl.
Neno police publicist Austin Kamwendo confirmed the arrest on Tuesday saying that the former PEA adopted the child for support and later started enticing her into sexual acts by giving her money when his wife was not around and provided her with a cellphone for secret communication.
Kamwendo further alleges that the child has revealed that she was defiled from February to April this year without protection claims collaborated by a medical report from Neno district hospital which further shows the girl is pregnant.
He said Mpapa will appear before court soon to answer a charge of defilement.
The suspect comes from Donda village in the area of Traditional Authority(TA) Chekucheku.
