Nankhumwa calls on more support towards cholera outbreak fight

The Leader of opposition in Parliament who is also Democratic Progressive Party ( DPP) Vice President for the Southern region Kondwani Nankhumwa has called on authorities to put much of their time in the fight against cholera outbreak which has hit hard the country

He was making the call after visiting Limbe and Makhetha health centres in Blantyre on Friday,30,2022.

Nankhumwa suggested that the cholera situation should always be treated with the urgency it deserves before it becomes a crisis.

The opposition leader however, made emotional appeal to Malawi’s donor partners to help manage the situation.

” We are calling on donors to help us in the fight against this preventable pandemic. Together we can defeat cholera,” said Nankhumwa.

Blantyre director of health and social services Gift Kawalazira district disclosed that Blantyre the district alone has recorded over 1300 Cases and 60 deaths most of which are due to contaminated water drawn from unsafe sources.

On, December, 29,2022, the country registered 447 cases of disease with 25 deaths, a highest number since the pandemic started.

So far, in Malawi, 16, 597 people have been diagnosed with cholera and 530 have died of the pandemic.
