Mtambo calls for co-existence among different faith groups

Minister of National Unity Timothy Pagonachi Mtambo has today 1Dec, 2022 launched an Irish Government funded inter-religious dialogue project in Mangochi district aimed at promoting tolerance and peaceful co-existence among diverse faith groups; particularly Christians and Muslims.

In his remarks during the launch, Mtambo asked religious leaders to actively get engaged in promoting peace and unity to ensure peaceful co-existence among people in the district. Mtambo reiterated that peace is a prerequisite catalyst for achieving sustainable development.



Mtambo was speaking as guest of honor at the launch for this conflict management project under the Center for Social Concern funded by the Irish Government.

Centre for Social Concern have been one of the Ministry’s partners in resolving the far too common religious conflicts between Christians and Moslems in the district.

The three year project launched aims at promoting tolerance among the diverse ethno-religious groups, leading to peaceful co-existence and unity in the district and beyond; particularly before, during, and after elections.

The Ministry of National Unity in a combined effort with its partners has been working at promoting tolerance and peaceful coexistence among faith groups through dialogue and conflict management in Mangochi district and other conflict hotspots in Malawi.

This project is in line with the peace agenda which is one of the key enablers for the Mw2063 national development strategy.

Stakeholders form diverse backgrounds including religious leaders, chiefs, District Peace and Unity Committee, CSOs and business persons attended the launch.
