By Thomas Psyata

Chief Resident Magistrate Court in Lilongwe has granted bail to former Tobacco Commission Chief Executive Officer, Kaisi Sadala, who is accused of abuse of office.

Delivering her ruling Chief Resident Magistrate, Chimwemwe Chimwaza, said the State has failed to prove that Sadala will interfere with investigations that the State is said to be conducting.

CRM Chimwaza also said the State failed to prove that Sadala is a flight risk.

CRM Chimwaza, therefore, granted bail on the condition that Sadala surrenders his travel documents and reports to Police Headquarters in Area 30 in Lilongwe once a fortnight.

Sadala is accused of directing the Tobacco Commission to sell two houses one in Kanengo in Lilongwe and one in Chigumula in Blantyre between July 2018 and March 2019.

The State earlier asked the court for 14 days remand for Sadala to complete investigations on the matter.

The former TC boss was arrested on Tuesday, 17 May 2022.
