President Chakwera awards Giddes Chalamanda medal for contribution towards Music in Malawi

President Lazarus Chakwera has awarded legendary musician Giddesi Chalamanda a lifetime achiever medal for his contribution to the country’s music industry.The President Gave the award when he hosted the legendary musician at Kamuzu palace as part of Gide’s 92nd birthday celebration.

AGidde, as is popularly known, was accompanied by his daughter Liny. The president said, in a short video released via his Facebook account that he invited the legendary musician just for a chat.He later gave him a trophy and a gift for what the president said was for, AGidde’s immeasurable contribution to the music industry.

But speaking during the time he met President Chakwera, Chalamannda thanked the President for the kind gesture

“I am very happy to meet the President face to face accompanied by my daughter Linny. At my age I never expected this, I am really thankful to the President for the gesture.” Said Giddes Chalamanda popularly known as Agide.

Giddes Chalamanda was born on Wednesday, January 15,1930 and comes from Chiradzulu District. He is an acoustic artist well-known for songs like Buffalo Soldier which is believed to have been composed and sang by him in 1960s before it was also sang by Bob Marley in 1978, and Linny lyrics.
