Police mum on when Kalindo will go to court as UDF, DPP demands immediate release

The Malawi Police Service says politician Bon Kalindo who has been arrested for making false public statements will be taken to court when the police get ready. Kalindo was arrested after he made claims that former Deputy speaker of Parliament Clement Chiwaya death wasnt suicide but murder.

A police statement signed by James Kadadzera, police publicist says Kalindo made the remarks during an anti-government protest in Mangochi.

Police say the remarks cause unrest and fear as evidence suggested rather that Chiwaya committed suicide.He has also been arrested on the charge of publishing a false statement that government is aware of people behind atrocities that people living with albinism are facing.

Meanwhile, Kadadzera has said that Kalindo will be taken to court for formal charging when the state is ready.

Meanwhile, opposition parties UDF and DPP have called for the immediate release of Kalindo calling the arrest politically motivated. In separate statements from the two parties, they all claim that government is trying to silence its critics
