Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) appoints new registrar

The Council of the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) has appointed a new University Registrar. He is Alfred Chinombo who has got the role following his success during a competitive and rigorous process.
According to a statement from the University, the new registrar is scheduled to report for duties on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.Mr Chinombo is a seasoned higher education administrator, manager and leadership practitioner with thirteen years of combined and progressive leadership and management experience in the Malawian higher education sector. He has held various portfolios in university leadership and management, including academic planning, governance and advising; strategy formulation and implementation, human resources management and development; staff and student support; implementation and management of ODeL admissions; marketing; quality assurance, institutional planning and reporting.
The University statement further says Chinombo is joining MUST with a proven and progressive track record of success from the University of Malawi (UNIMA) and Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) in shaping strategy and academic policies, initiating and implementing management and operational reforms, establishing enabling procedures and creating an environment and culture that values teamwork and the continuous improvement of academic and administrative processes. He has also been a key member of the ICT team that has established various innovative processes and systems at the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) regarding the Harmonised Public University Selection.
Before joining MUST, Alfred worked as the Acting Deputy University Registrar at LUANAR. He successfully championed LUANAR’s digital transformation and streamlining of routine and complex academic and student admission administrative functions. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Malawi and a Master of Business Administration from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa.
“I am excited to join this ambitious university, and it is my wish to continue with its scientific, technological and innovative mindset that has seen it making a name on the local and international higher education platform. I will rely on everyone’s support as we strive to make MUST fulfil its mandate,” said Mr Chinombo.
