Two women in for assaulting a Nurse

Senior Resident Magistrate Akya Mwanyongo has found two women with a case to answer for assaulting a nurse at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.It is alleged that Esnart Selemani and her daughter Yankho assaulted Gertrude Moffat, on February 17 this year.

Previously, the State paraded three witnesses including Moffat, a doctor at QECH, Bright Wasambo Mwafulirwa and the facility’s chief nursing officer Edna Nkangala.It is alleged that the two women assaulted Moffat as she was telling them to leave a ward because they were not allowed in due to restrictions in regards to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, it is alleged that in the process, the two women and Moffat engaged in a verbal war before they later the nurse to the ground and started assaulting her.Moffat, who was the first witness, said doctors and guardians helped her escape the wrath of the women.

Today, Magistrate Mwanyongo has given the two a period of 30 days to challenge the verdict. Meanwhile, defense lawyer Rodgers Mpombeza has said they are ready to defend their clients.
