Declare vacant seats for 32 MPs who have failed to declare assests , Speaker urged
The National Anti-Corruption Alliance has asked Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara to declare vacant seats for law makers who have failed to declare their assets to the Directorate of Public officers Declarations.
The development comes at a time when the Directorate of Public officers Declarations has told the parliamentary monitoring committee that at least thirty two members of parliament and sixty five councilors have failed to declare their assets in the 2019/2020 financial year as required by law.
Speaking to the media Moses Mkandawire, Executive Director of the Alliance said the law is very clear that when you occupy a position of public authority, duty bearers must declare their assets.Mkandawire said failure to declare the assets has a very negative in the fight against corruption as duty bearers take advantage of funds at their disposal to enrich themselves.
Mkandawire has therefore asked the speaker of parliament and district councils to declare vacant seats for members of parliament and councils who have not declared their assets.
